Senior Room - Ms. Collins - Fourth, Fifth & Sixth Class

The senior classes are taught by Ms. Collins. This class grouping comprises of  4th, 5th class and 6th class..

The normal Primary School Curriculum is followed in the senior classes, with Confirmation every year.

Senior classes participate in the DabbleDoo music programme throughout the year. Additionally, all children participate in Hip Hop Dance Classes during the 2nd Term. The Cumann na mBunscol football league competition for both boys and girls is a must in our school.  Soccer is very well catered for in the Senior Classes with our annual participation in all schools competitions for both boys and girls. We are also in the happy position to be able to welcome external coaches in Gaelic Football, Soccer and Tag Rugby. Speaking of Tag Rugby, pupils also take part in several Tag Rugby fun blitz throughout the year, and this year we are representing Connaught in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. What an honour!

The senior pupils participate in computer classes on an annual basis during the first term.  Children are encouraged to use these new skills on homework projects and to post their work on Google Classroom rather than writing out their research. There is a strong emphasis on group work and the development of research skills.  Children are encouraged to work on a topic over a given period and submit their assignment by a given date. These newly acquired skills will also come in very useful during Maths Week when our school participates in the MangaHigh Maths Competition. This affords all the pupils the opportunity to win points for the school, in this All-Ireland interschools event. Previously, we have finished third, two years in a row. Pupils from the Senior Room go on Local History walks on a termly basis. The children are encouraged to record their findings and subsequently asked to construct several History projects throughout the year.

Senior classes compete in the annual Credit Union Art Competition with regular success. Children also take part in local community games activities, winning trophies and medals.

Each year the school participates in Essay Writing and Poetry competitions with great success. During the last term, the pupils engaged in seven classes of Mindfulness with our local guru, Christine Collins. In addition to this, our budding scientists exhibit their skills at the local SciFest competition in Lanesborough Community College.

Overall, our class embraces The School Motto ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile’ with great enthusiasm!
